SUMMARY:Earth Connections: Land Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Earth Connections Artist Reception and DABL Art Market \nSept. 9\, 10am-5pm \nEARTH CONNECTIONS  Land Art Exhibition\nCome take a walk-about and see what is created August 15 – October 31\, 2023. We will have maps available for self guided tours. Visit the Farley Center anytime from sun-up to sun-down and take a walk through the woods. We will have a community tour on Sept. 9\, starting at 1pm where many of the artists will be present to talk about their work. \nDABL ART MARKET\nNew this year\, Farley Center will host Dane Arts Buy Local Art Market on Sept. 9. A variety of artists (including 9 of our Earth Connection artists) will set up booths to display and sell their art. It will be a fun arts festival including music and food! Bring the whole family to for this outdoor celebration. (Artists will be able to accept cash or check) Learn more about DABL and the Pop-Up Market \n  \n\nThis is the sixth year that area artists will create installations in the woods of the Natural Path Sanctuary on the Farley Center land. These artists are rising to the challenge of using only materials that can safely decompose back into the land. \nLand art\, also known as Earth art\, and environmental art is created by artists who use the materials of the Earth including for instance\, the soil\, rocks\, branches\, trees\, vegetation\, water and other natural\, non-toxic materials. \nThe Farley Center supports these types of installations on our land to highlight the beauty\, value and necessity to think about how we view and use the land. Our artists help raise the discussion of what is toxic and what do we mean by the word “decompose.” What has to change in the way we work in order to sustain the Earth and all of us that live on it in healthy ways \nEarth Connections 2023 Land Artists: \nJustin Bitner\nDavid Carlson\nMona Cassis*\nGene Delcourt*\nBetsy Delzer*\nChar De Vos\nKate Heiber-Cobb\nSteve Heuer*\nAmelia Higgins (Youth Participant)\nChris Hindle\nRuthanna Hutton-Okpalaeke\nAngela Johnson\nEllen Khalifa\nKatrina Krueger\nEfrat Livny*\nErin McWalter*\nBilly Morgan\nKaren Reppen*\nCynthia Reynolds\nBobbette Rose*\nPhil Saunders\nSue Schuetz\nBarry Sherbeck*\nJohn Steines\nCooper Talbot\nKelsey Voy\nUrban Indigenous Art & Sciences Youth Group \n*These artists will also be selling their art through DABL Art Market on Sept. 9 \nThe Farley Center would like to thank all the artists who are participating this year. A special thank you to Bobbette Rose who is the Farley Center Art Coordinator and has helped organize land art exhibits/projects for the Farley Center. \nFor a look at past land art exhibits (2013-2021): http://farleycenter.org/land-art-installations/ \nFor questions\, please contact programs@farleycenter.org

Aerin Tedesco and Andrea Bunch have been called ‘two of the most beautiful noises on the planet.’ The Starlings have brought their music to world famous venues like Milwaukee’s Summerfest\, The National Women’s Music Festival\, Halsted Market Days\, Taste of Chicago\, Pride Fest\, Hard Rock Café\, The House of Blues\, and to beloved Chicago venues like The Old Town School of Folk Music\, SPACE\, Schuba’s and Martyr’s.” \nWhether as an acoustic duo or a full band\, Congress of Starlings joyfully delivers a unique\, startling blend of unearthly harmonies\, rich melodies\, and unusual meters. Lyrically\, their concerns reach from the depths of the heart\, across the damaged American landscape\, and through the mists of other worlds. Their voices are unmatched in their ability to move and enrapture audiences. Their songs are raw and powerful. \nCongress of Starlings recent highlights ~ \nWe produce Covers for Cover\, now in its 17th year. Covers for Cover brings together trans and cis women artists to raise funds for women in need. Our annual shows are celebratory\, uplifting concerts full of fans and artists cheering each other on! This December\, Covers for Cover was proud to raise $25\,000 for the Chicago Abortion Fund. \nIn June 2022\, we sold out the 500+ seat Old Town School of Folk Music theater with our tribute to Joni Mitchell. Here’s Woodstock from that show. \nOur music appears in Monty & Rose I and II\, feature length documentaries about endangered piping plovers nesting in Chicago and the decision Chicagoans made to protect them.
