SUMMARY:Farley Center Tour of Prairie Spirit Wildlife Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:Come join the Farley Center for a visit/tour to Prairie Spirit Wildlife Sanctuary in Springdale. Dr. John Barnes established this sanctuary in 2000 and serves as the Director of the Sanctuary\, Dr. Barnes has been a long time Farley Center Board Member from the beginning of the Farley Center until August 2016. http://www.wildlifelandtrust.org/sanctuaries/prairie-spirit-wildlife.html \n\n\n\nPLEASE MEET PROMPTLY at 11:00 AM on Saturday\, August 1 at the Prairie Sprit Wildlife Sanctuary located at 1811 Spring Rose Road. \nDr. Barnes will give a presentation/tour (PLEASE SOCIAL DISTANCE DURING THE OUTDOOR PRESENTATION) and then attendees may stay until 3:00 p.m. to walk about the sanctuary on their own. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The Prairie Spirit Wildlife Sanctuary is 200 acres of land in Springdale\, Wisconsin. The terrain is quite gentle and rolling\, with good drainage and deep soils with few outcrops. Most of the property is formerly tilled land that has been restored to tall grass prairie\, native to the area. The remaining land is central hardwood forest dominated by oaks and hickories. There also are a few planted softwood stands – spruce and red pine.” \n\n\n“Three springs form ponds on the property and provide life-sustaining water year-round for the animals who call this place home. More than 130 bird species have been seen at the sanctuary\, including chestnut-sided warbler\, common yellowthroat\, and grasshopper sparrow. White-tailed deer thrive here\, along with many varieties of reptiles and amphibians.” \n\n\n“The sanctuary was established in 2000 by the donation of a conservation easement by Dr. John Barnes. He worked with the Humane Society Wildlife Land Trust to ensure that his property would forever remain a safe haven for the wildlife who call it home. As with all land protected by HSWLT conservation easements\, recreational and commercial hunting and trapping\, as well as destructive logging practices\, will always be prohibited.” \n\n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Farley Center-Racism in Healthcare by Dr. Tillman Farley-Online
DESCRIPTION:Black Lives Matter: A discussion of racism in healthcare\nONLINE Presentation – (one hour presentation followed by 1/2 hour for discussion)\n\nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://salud.zoom.us/j/99604433630 \n\n\nRacism has permeated all aspects of our society since 1619 when the first enslaved person was brought to these shores. Although the formal institution of slavery ended in the United States in 1865\, the underlying force that allowed it to exist – the belief that one group of people is inferior to another – has persisted and has yet to be addressed in the United States. Sadly\, the medical profession has not been immune to the effects of structural\, institutional\, and personal racism. Dr. Tillman Farley\, MD\, Chief Medical Officer at Salud Family Health Centers and Associate Professor of Family Medicine in the University of Colorado School of Medicine\, will lead a presentation and discussion of racism in healthcare.\n\nhttps://farleyhealthpolicycenter.org/team/tillman-farley/\n\n\n4:30 – 6:00 Pacific Standard Time (PST)\n5:30 – 7:00 Mountain Standard Time (MST)\n6:30 – 8:00 Central Standard Time (CST)***WI\n7:30- 9:00 Eastern Standard Time (EST) \n\n\n\n\nThank you to the following Co-Sponsors: \nUW Dept of Family Medicine and Community Health\nhttps://www.fammed.wisc.edu/about/\nWisconsin Physicians for a National Healthcare Program\nThe Linda and Gene Farley WI Chapter of PNHP\nhttps://pnhp.org/chapter/wisconsin/\n\nPhysicians for Social Responsibility PSR)\nhttps://www.psr.org/\n\nSouthwest Wisconsin Area Progressive (SWWAP)\nswwap.org\n\nNatural Path Sanctuary\nhttp://naturalpathsanctuary.org/
