SUMMARY:Making a Planet-Friendly Farm Bill
DESCRIPTION:Feb. 12\, 2024 \nMaking a Planet-Friendly Farm Bill \nThe federal Farm Bill isn’t just vitally important to farmers\, it impacts every American community—urban\, suburban and rural. This massive legislation shapes national policies dealing with everything from nutrition and hunger to climate change and natural resource conservation. Hear how a new Farm Bill can be turned into a force promoting agricultural practices that are good for farmers\, the land\, air and water quality\, consumers\, and future prospects for life on our planet. Find out what you can do to influence what the next Farm Bill ends up looking like. \nSPEAKERS \nDarin Von Ruden is a third-generation dairy farmer who is president of Wisconsin Farmers Union. Darin has been active with Farmers Union at the local\, state and national levels and is a seven-time recipient of the Silver Star Award\, National Farmers Union’s highest recognition of membership development. He and his wife JoAnn live in Westby and transitioned the farm to the fourth generation when their son Brett purchased the machinery and 50-cow dairy herd. \nMargaret Krome has spent over 30 years developing federal and state programs and policies supporting sustainable agriculture. Margaret’s interest in agriculture dates back to her childhood\, as the grandchild of a Florida avocado and citrus grower. She is policy program director at Michael Fields Agriculture Institute and previously worked for the Wisconsin Rural Development Center. \nMike McCabe is a member of a team promoting regenerative agriculture for the climate action group 350 Wisconsin. Mike got his start milking cows and working the land on his family’s farm before going on to lead the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign for nearly two decades and establish the grassroots group Blue Jean Nation. During a two-year stint in the Peace Corps\, he served as an agriculture education adviser in the West African country of Mali. \nHOSTED BY\nFarley Center for Peace\, Justice\, and Sustainability\nSouthwest Wisconsin Area Progressives (SWWAP)\nBrix Cider\nBlue Jean Nation\n350 Wisconsin

SUMMARY:Natural Path Sanctuary (NPS) Presentation with Janis Strutt- End of Life Planning for Special Needs Families
DESCRIPTION:3/19/24 \nNatural Path Sanctuary (NPS) Presentation with Janis Strutt- End of Life Planning for Special Needs Families \nCome join us for a presentation with Janis Strutt from 10:30 – 11:30 followed by a question and answer session with the NPS Cemeterians from 11:30-Noon. A tour of the NPS is optional (dependent on weather). \nPlease meet in the lower level conference room at the Farley Center. \nJanie Strutt’s Presentation \nMy daughter\, Morgan\, was born with Spina Bifida\, and this led me to become passionate about working with children and adults with special needs. Specifically\, adults and children who require guardians or advocates to make health\, financial\, personal care\, housing\, and other big life decisions on their behalf. Tragically\, we recently experienced the unexpected loss of Morgan on October 15th. As devastating as this has been\, it has also served as a wake-up call for my family. We realized that we hadn’t adequately planned for the event of Morgan’s passing before our own. We were so focused on her death proceeding ours that we lost sight of her proceeding our death. We had put in place our trusts\, a special needs trust\, guardianship\, life insurance on us to leave to her future care and thought we had been so thorough. We missed so much planning like\, funeral expenses\, passwords\, time off work to grieve\, and so much more. \nThis experience has only fueled my dedication and provided more clarity to helping families plan\, particularly those with loved ones who require special considerations. I have forged partnerships with many business professionals and non-profit organizations to ensure that we take a holistic approach to protection and answers on where to find services. From our experience first-hand I know how important it is to plan as much in advance. Planning for now and the future with regards to a special-needs trust\, guardianship\, funeral expenses\, bank accounts\, life insurance\, housing\, care and everything in between\, I am committed to offering comprehensive guidance and support. There are countless facets to consider when it comes to safeguarding families\, and it takes a collaborative effort to navigate those complexities. I am here to advocate for those who need it most and provide peace of mind in the face of life’s uncertainties. \nJanis is an American Family Insurance agent with a passion for helping individuals and families who have children and adults with disabilities. \nPlease RSVP to programs@farleycenter.org \nwww.naturalpathsanctuary.org
