Chance to Showcase Farley Sculptures!
In addition to being a physician and community activist, Gene Farley enjoyed making sculptures, mostly in metal or wood. Many of his metal sculptures are permanently installed on the grounds of the Farley Center. We need to do some tender loving trimming so they don’t get lost in the plants which surround them.
If you would like to help with this project, grab your garden shears or clippers and come on out.
Meet at the Center at 8:20 at the Bur Oak Welcoming Area near the red packing shed.
This work is all outdoors so dress for the weather and bring work gloves and water bottles. If you have any questions, please e-mail programs@farleycenter.org.
As part of the “Rooted in the Land” celebration, 26 artists are coming together to fill the NPS woods with art using only materials that can safely decompose back into the ground! This is the 5th year we’ve had artists creating in the woods and its the largest exhibition yet! Work will be on public view August 15 – October 31, 2021.

About Skip Jones:
For over 40 years I have been sharing songs and stories with audiences of all types and sizes.
Some songs come from the giants of Americana music – giants such as Woody Guthrie. Others are from some of the great folk singers I have had the privilege of working with over the years, such as my old friend and mentor U. Utah Phillips, Guy Carawan, Bill Stanes and Larry Long. On occasion, I may also sneak in a few songs I have written myself.
The stories come from my travels around the world as a navy veteran and performer, and from my own back yard surrounded by members of the Mohican Nation in Northeast Wisconsin.
They also come from the lives and observations of thousands of “regular” yet very special people I have entertained, from ages 3 to 108.
I am a musical activist for many issues from clean water to respecting each other, and my convictions work their way into my music and stories.
Beyond my own performances I have organized and directed festivals and concert series, introduced House Concerts to the Midwest and beyond, provided high-quality sound engineering for folk festivals and cultural events, and have produced and recorded albums for local, regional and national artists.

Greetings Artists,
I have begun to receive seed catalogues, so we know spring is on its way. My thoughts return to the Farley Center Tree Carving project. This is one of many things that Covid-19 has put on hold. The good news is that we can begin to work towards resuming.
I would like to invite you to consider what you might want to contribute to the project. Remember that the theme is “Rooted in the Land.” This will also be the theme of the 2021 land art exhibition this year.
Simply contact me with what you would like to do. The tree is divided by vine carvings into “panels” of various sizes. You can select one of those to carve, paint, or attach objects that are environmentally friendly and that fit the theme. The challenge is to create with materials that are weather resistant.
I will, when things warm up this spring, be refreshing things and then I will be working on a carving on one of the panels modeled after the oak tree we so often gather around at the center. There are lots of other ideas related to the land, such as farming, bees and bee keeping, wildlife, birds, native flowers and much more.
I hope to hear from you soon.

Come join us for an in-person concert with “Harmonious Wail” at the Farley Center under the Bur Oak Welcoming Area (BOWA ).
“The members of Harmonious Wail are purveyors of Americana-infused Gypsy Jazz, who continue to take their listeners on a ride via the music of the Hot Club sounds of Parisian cafes, to the deepest blues of the Memphis Delta, to the heartfelt folk scenes across every-town-America. This harmonious clique are sublime entertainers, great educators, and lifters of spirits.”
“Harmonious Wail is a trio of multi-award winning musicians. Sims Delaney-Potthoff, a mandolin virtuoso, and vocalist, Maggie Delaney-Potthoff, vocalist extraordinaire, whose percussive instrument of choice is a cardboard box (but who can also rock almost any household object), and Jeffo Weiss, a master bassist who dazzles and mesmerizes on both upright and electric 5-string bass.”
We encourage attendees to come early or stay late and take a walk through the Natural Path Sanctuary and Farley Center farms.
